Background
Operas were not permitted in early 18th century Rome. Handel's Italian period saw him produce several non-operatic oratorios which have become known to us in recent years. This, however, is a delightful dramatic cantata, HWV 96, a comedy in which Clori, a shepherdess, can't decide between two suitors. In attempting to play one off against the other, she ends by losing both.
Characters
Clori (soprano)
Tirsi (soprano)
Fileno (alto)
