Background

At the age of 22 Puccini produced, in his home town, a choral setting of the mass, Missa a quattro voci, commonly known as the Messa di Gloria, for tenor and baritone soloists, with choir and orchestra.  It was not heard again until 1952 in Chicago, but is gradually gaining popularity.
