John Bishop was born in South Africa and grew up in Jamaica, Tanzania and Fiji before settling in the Lake District.  He began his career as a lighting designer with Welsh National Opera, and has worked as a freelance theatre lighting designer, creating over 200 productions throughout the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, America and elsewhere for some 35 years.
