John Hudson studied in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, under Laura Sarti.  He spent a period in the chorus of Welsh National Opera before joining ENO as a principal.

His roles with ENO included Mozart (Don Ottavio, Tamino); Donizetti (Ernesto); Wagner (Steersman The Flying Dutchman); Verdi (Ernani, Duke of Mantua, Alfredo); Bizet (Nadir); Massenet (Des Grieux); Mascagni (Turiddu); Puccini (Rodolfo, Pinkerton).

With Welsh National he sang Alfredo and Don José.

Scottish Opera appearances include Verdi (Duke of Mantua, Manrico, Radamès); Bizet (Don José); Puccini (Rodolfo, Cavaradossi, Pinkerton).

He also sang Alfredo in New Zealand and Ernani in Amsterdam.
