Catriona Morison Suggest updates

Scottish mezzo-soprano.

Catriona Morison trained in Glasgow under Clare Shearer at the Alexander Gibson Opera School. She had previously studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and in Berlin at the Universität der Künste. She received support from the  RCS Trust, the Sir James Caird Trust, the Sir Richard Stapley Trust and a Sybil Tutton Award from the Musicians Benevolent Fund.

In 2017 she bacame the first Scot to win a prize at the Cardiff Singer of the World competition. She won the Opera Prize (the first Briton to do so) and was joint winner of the Song Prize (the first Scot to join previous British winners Neal Davies, Bryn Terfel, Christopher Maltman, Andrew Kennedy and Elizabeth Watts). She then joined the 2017 intake as a BBC New Generation Artist.

Her operatic roles as a student in Glasgow included Bianca in The Rape of Lucretia, Nero in The Coronation of Poppea and Hermia A Midsummer Night's Dream, while she appeared with Edinburgh Grand as Mercédès in Carmen.

Her operatic debut at the Edinburgh International Festival came in 2019 as Wellgunde, with a return in 2021 (Composer).

In Germany she also sang Cherubino at the Weimar Lyric Opera Studio and later returned to work with several other houses, including Wuppertal.
