Josephine Wray was a regular performer at Covent Garden between 1929 and 1939, singing Freia in every production of the Ring. In the autumn of 1931 she also sang Elsa and Sieglinde, adding Venus the following year. Non-Wagnerian roles included Nella in Gianni Schicchi (1931) and the Priestess in Aïda in 1936 and 1939. She also sang regularly with Sadler's Wells between 1934 and 1936 as Tosca. During the thirties she also toured Britain with a small company called the Metropolitan Opera, in which she also sang Wagner roles.
