Robert lived in Kirkcaldy as a youngster and was a promising young singer from his teens, who took leading roles in YMTS productions of West Side Story, Les Miserables, Into The Woods and Phantom of the Opera at the Adam Smith Theatre. Since then his career has gone from strength to strength.
Robert trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Royal College of Music, graduated with an MPhil at Cambridge University, and completed a year at the National Opera Studio before making his operatic debut in 2015 with the Netherlands Reisopera as King Kaspar in Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors.
Since then he has sung roles with Hurn Court Opera), IF Opera/Royal Academy Opera, Glyndebourne, Dorset Opera, Royal Academy Opera, and European Opera Centre. His Wigmore Hall debut came in 2020 with the Royal Academy Song Circle. He has also worked as a cover for the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe.
Highlights of 2025 include Nanki-Poo The Mikado (Opera Della Luna) and Scottish Opera’s spring ‘Highlights Tour’ across 24 venues. In August he made his BBC Proms debut with Glyndebourne as Don Basilio in The Marriage of Figaro.
He has found time to come and sing in Scotland with Dunfermline Choral and more recently in the Verdi Requiem with the Edinburgh Singers
