"The visit to the Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh of the Carl Rosa Opera Company was broght to a close on saturday evening, when a large audience showed keen appreciation of Wallace's Maritana. This, the first and best opera of the unfortunate Irish composer, has stood the test of time; and with seventy years behind it, still holds the place of the most popular of operas. The interest of the story of the gypsy girl who saw the splendour of a Court, the effective orchestration, above all the tender appeal of the well knownsongs, account for its remarkable vitality. "In happy moments", "Scenes that are brightest" and M"Mansion of the blessed" have long since passed into currency. The opera was adequately presented..,"
