Opera Bohemia, Scotland’s professional touring company, makes its Perth Festival debut with an intimate chamber version of Puccini’s masterpiece, Madama Butterfly. Scottish director John Leo Wilkie returns to the company having recently created productions for Opera Holland Park, New Zealand Festival Opera and Danish National Opera.
A star cast is led by Scottish soprano Catriona Clark, a favourite with Opera Bohemia audiences and already highly acclaimed in the role of Cio-Cio-San. Other cast members include former Scottish Opera Emerging Artist Louise Collett, Alexander Gibson Opera School graduates Thomas Kinch and Seumas Begg, and American baritone Whitaker Mills, who recently made his Metropolitan Opera debut.
The production is accompanied by the Bohemia Ensemble in a special chamber orchestration, under the baton of Musical Director Alistair Digges. This tale of love, sacrifice and heartbreak promises to be a memorable night for opera lovers and newcomers alike. Sung in Italian with English surtitles, approx. 2hrs.
