This is an interesting team for the great Bach oratorio. Toby Spence has been absent from Scotland for too long, and Bach is an interesting challenge for him. The other soloists are less well known. A novel departure from usual practice seems to be the leading men singing arias as well as their two principal characters. The South African director makes a welcome return to the work, a decade since he last conducted it here.
The Glasgow performance is in the intimate surroundings of the Royal Concert Hall's New Auditorium.
