The old tradition of staging this masterpiece in a kind of romantic glow has long faded away.  Perhaps a concert is a good way to encounter the glorious orchestration.

This cast is certainly a hugely promising one.  Diana Montague, mother of this Pelléas, herself sang Mélisande at the 1985 Edinburgh Festival. Alastair Miles sang Arkel in Scottish Opera's last staging in 2016.
