Perth Choral Society here presented under the title An Evening with Puccini an enjoyable and stimulating programme of dramatic music by Puccini. The most unusual feature was what may be the first Scottish performance of his early and very little known choral piece, the Messa di Gloria. This was composed for tenor and baritone soloists, with chorus and orchestra.
After the interval there was a series of operatic highlights from 'Puccini's greatest hits' - including Tosca, Bohème, Madam Butterfly and, of course, the famous tenor aria 'Nessun Dorma' from Turandot.
The three soloists were all highly promising recent graduates of the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the RCS in Glasgow. Only the men were required for the Mass. In the second part of the evening, they were joined by soprano Natalia Montakhab.
£16.50 concessions £14.50.
