The LSO's residency at the Festival included several mouthwatering events. None was anticipated more keenly than this evening when Sir Antonio Pappano conducted the Edinburgh Festival Chorus in Vaughan Williams' glorious setting of Walt Whitman. The two vocal soloists were world class, with baritone Will Liverman a welcome novelty.
The concert began with a rare hearing of Elizabeth Maconchy's Nocturne for Orchestra, then the great Norwegian virtuoso Vilde Frang gave us the lush and increasingly popular Violin Concerto by Korngold.
