Handel's great work is now half way through its tour of Scotland. Given in a highly-praised production, the music is full of contrast, ranging from tender love songs to arias of passion and revenge, says Scottish Opera's Head of Music, Derek Clark. The cast includes soprano Sarah Power as Rodelinda and Emerging Artists Andrew McTaggart and Sioned Gwen Davies as Garibaldo and Eduige. Counter-tenors Andrew Radley and Reno Troilus are Bertarido and his loyal friend Unulfo, with Richard Rowe as the usurping ruler Grimoaldo. Music Director Susannah Wapshott leads the performance from the harpsichord, playing alongside cellist Andrew Drummond Huggan and violinist Gabi Maas.
In these tough economic times, it says a lot that Scottish Opera have chosen to tour the country with this great work rather than something safer.
The opera can be seen in Dundee before the cast travel to Aboyne, Nairn, Dunfermline and Kelso before ending the tour in Musselburgh on 2 November. Take your chance to hear the marvellous music which shows Handel at the top of his form. Follow through our pages and book your ticket here.
