Back in 2022 one of the most memorable highlights of the Edinburgh International Festival was a superb concert performance of Salome by Richard Strauss.
The Sunday evening Usher Hall audience went crazy at the end and the enthusiasm was completely justified. The Bergen Philharmonic under conductor Edward Gardiner was in glorious form, but did not manage to overshadow the wonderful Swedish soprano Malin Byström and a uniformly great supporting cast.
The event was recorded live and has now been released on Chandos to universal acclaim. This makes a fabulous souvenir of a great Festival event.
