The Aberdeen International Youth Festival is now in its 40th year, and runs from 1-11 August. The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is holding an Opera Residency, offering opera workshops to talented young singers in the city. They have the chance to learn from some of the country's most gifted teachers and performers.
The Mary Garden Youth Singers' residency is for young singers too and runns from August 6-11. A small group aged 15-20 is to work alongside staff and students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in preparing a programme of opera scenes for a public performance. Through participation and observation the young singers will gain an insight into the detailed musical preparation and production rehearsal process. Working and rehearsing with the experienced teachers from the Royal Conservatoire, Tim Dean and Mark Hathaway, participants will also benefit from working with the internationally acclaimed soprano, Lisa Milne. Check out the public performance here - go along to hear these young performers. Learn about Mary Garden too..
